Overview
About this Spot
Totoritas is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the district of Mala, about 80 kilometers south of Lima city. The spot is reached by taking the Panamericana Sur highway south, turning right at the sign for Totoritas near Puente Mala, and following the road to the beach. Totoritas is a private beach with a sand bottom and is known for its fast and hollow waves, which are best suited for intermediate surfers. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The spot works on all tides and is very consistent, with the best surf conditions usually during the summer months when southwest swells and northeast offshore winds line up. The length of the ride is generally less than 50 meters. The beach is usually empty, but localism can be strong, so it is important to respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded. Always check the surf etiquette and be aware of the local rules. Before paddling out, check your skills to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level, as the waves can be challenging and are not recommended for beginners. The area is surrounded by dunes and native vegetation, and the beach is home to various marine birds. Amenities are limited, with only a few kiosks for snacks and drinks and public restrooms available. Accommodation options can be found in the nearby town of Mala, including hostels and rental houses. For surf forecast, report, map, and webcam information, check online resources before heading out. Nearby surf spots include San Antonio, La Ensenada, Bujama, Boca Leon, and Mar Azul. Totoritas is a spot where every wave can be different, so be prepared for changing conditions and always respect the local surf community.
