Overview
About this Spot
Puerto Nuevo is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, about 71 kilometers south of Lima city and close to the Panamericana Sur highway. The spot is a quality beach break with a sandy bottom, offering short, hollow, and powerful waves that are good for tubes, airs, and fast rides. The spot provides both left and right waves. The best surf conditions are usually during the winter months with offshore winds from the east and groundswells from the southwest, but clean surfable waves are also common in the summer, especially in February. The water temperature is around 20.6°C, so a wetsuit is recommended. Puerto Nuevo is less crowded than other surf spots in the region, but it is important to respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette, especially if the spot gets busy. The spot is suitable for all levels, but you should check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. The wave length is less than 50 meters, and the best tides are low and medium. Access to the beach can be through a private resort entrance, but if that is not possible, you can reach it by walking or using a 4×4 from Puerto Viejo, which is a couple of kilometers away. Nearby surf spots include Las Gramas, Puerto Viejo, Boca Leon, La Ensenada, and San Antonio. The area can have strong rip currents, so always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. There is no webcam available at the spot, so checking the map and local conditions is important. For better performance, some surfers use boards with a round pin tail or a big concave, but a simple board works too. Always check the difficulty of the spot before entering the water. Respect the locals and follow the surf etiquette to keep the vibe friendly.
