Overview
About this Spot
Baby Makapuu is a surf spot located in Oahu East Side, Hawaii. The spot provides left waves. It’s situated near the well-known Makapuu break, in a small cove sometimes referred to as Cockroach or Blimp’s cove. This spot is suitable for all levels of surfers and sometimes breaks, offering waves with a length of 50-150 meters. The shoreline is slightly rocky, with small sections of rock on each side. On good days, which are unfortunately rare, Baby Makapuu has about three working breaks: the outer and biggest break, the inner-right break, and the always present beach break. The spot is known for its calm and relaxed atmosphere most of the time. However, on good days, it can get crowded, so it’s important to respect the locals and follow surf etiquette. The best, and often only, break comes from the rock patch on the right side on mediocre days. These waves are easy to catch, but surfers need to turn right away to ride them. Baby Makapuu is located near other surf spots like Makapuu Beach, Sandy Beach, Bellows, and Turtles. The spot features a mix of white sandy shoreline and lava rock tide pools, offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains and Rabbit Island. Access to the spot is convenient, with a parking lot and a short trail leading to the beach. However, visitors should be cautious of potential car break-ins in the area. It’s worth noting that there’s a lack of nearby restrooms, with the nearest ones being a 5-minute walk down a rocky trail. Before paddling out, check your skills to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. For the latest surf forecast, report, and webcam information, it’s advisable to check online resources or local surf shops. Remember to always prioritize safety and respect for the environment when surfing at Baby Makapuu or any other spot.
