Camaronal

Camaronal is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, about seven miles south of Playa Samara. The beach is part of the Camaronal Wildlife Refuge and stretches for about three miles with dark golden sand. The spot is known for its consistent surf, with waves that can reach up to triple overhead and are surfable all day. The bottom is sandy, and the spot works on all tides. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. The best surf conditions are usually from December to March, with swells from the south and southwest and offshore winds from the north. The length of the ride ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The area is remote, with no services or commercial establishments directly on the beach, so bring what you need. The nearest towns with accommodations, restaurants, and other amenities are Samara and Playa Carrillo. Access to Camaronal is via a road through Samara and Carrillo, then south toward Punta Islita. You may need a 4×4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season when river crossings can be challenging. It is best to cross rivers at low tide or consider arriving by boat from Samara. The spot is suitable for intermediate surfers due to strong currents, rips, and undertow. There is a risk of crocodiles and bull sharks near the river mouth, so stay alert. The beach is usually uncrowded, but when it gets busy, respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette.
