Islita

Islita is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The beach is short and has a sandy bottom, with some rocks under the water especially from a visible stick to the east side, so avoid taking waves in that area unless you are experienced and the tide is high. The spot is best for beginners looking to improve their surf skills, but it is important to check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. Islita is known for its consistent surf, with the best conditions during medium and high tide. Big waves can form at high tide, so always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The water temperature is warm, around 28.7°C (83.7°F), so you do not need a wetsuit. The spot is usually empty or has very few surfers, making it a relaxed place to surf, but always respect the locals and follow surf etiquette, especially if the spot gets crowded. Access to Islita requires a 4×4 vehicle due to rough roads. From Samara Beach, drive east towards Carrillo Beach, continue to Estrada town, then either cross the Ora river in summer and pass Camaronal Beach, or go through Santa Marta town and follow signs to Punta Islita. Be careful of rip currents and submerged rocks, especially near the eastern part of the beach. Nearby surf spots include Camaronal, Playa Samara, Playa Coyote, Barrigona, and Playa Nosara. Islita is not widely known, so it is a good place if you want to surf with few people around. Always check the surf map and webcam for current conditions before you go.
