Tanjung Lesung is a surf spot located in Java, Indonesia. The surf spot provides left waves. It’s situated on the western tip of Java, approximately 160 kilometers from Jakarta, accessible via a three to four-hour drive. The spot features a rocky bottom and is suitable for surfers of all levels. Tanjung Lesung sometimes breaks, offering waves less than 50 meters in length. The crowd is typically empty, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful surf session. Nearby surf spots include Pasauran, Pasauran Muara, Jambu Beach, National Park, and One Palm Point. The area is known for its 15-kilometer white sand coastline and clear blue waters. Tanjung Lesung has been designated as a Special Economic Zone, spanning 1,500 hectares, with developments aimed at enhancing tourism. The spot offers moderate waves, characterized as a reef break performing best under northeast wind conditions and southwest swells. Beyond surfing, visitors can engage in activities such as snorkeling, diving, and exploring the vibrant coral reefs. The area also provides opportunities for fishing and cultural experiences. Accommodations range from rustic cottages to more developed resorts. The Tanjung Lesung Sailing Club offers sailing opportunities with various boats available for rent. When surfing here, it’s important to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette. Always assess your skills before paddling out to ensure the spot and conditions match your surfing level. The area was affected by the 2018 Sunda Strait tsunami, which caused significant damage. Transportation access is being improved, with the construction of a toll road aimed at reducing travel time from Jakarta to about 2.5 hours. Plans for an airport and a tourist port are also in development to cater to both local and foreign tourists.
