Overview
About this Spot
Silverstrand is a surf spot located in Leinster, Ireland. This spot features a right-hand wave that breaks over a sandy bottom, making it suitable for surfers of all experience levels. The wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters, and it can accommodate a few surfers in the water, with typical crowds of around 30 to 50 people on days when conditions are optimal. Silverstrand is known for its regional classic wave quality, which makes it a notable location for surfing within the area. The surf conditions at Silverstrand are influenced by swells coming from the south and east, with the small headland on the right side of the beach helping to jack up the waves. However, the east coast surf is often messy unless there are onshore winds. The headland also provides some vital wind shelter, which can enhance the overall surfing experience. The surf spot is accessible by traveling south on the N11, taking the turnoff for Wicklow/Rathnew/Rathdrum, and continuing into Wicklow Town. Surfers should follow the coast road south, passing the Wicklow Golf Club and then Silver Strand Beach, before reaching Blainroe Golf Club. There is a lane on the left just after Blainroe Golf Club, but vehicles cannot drive down the lane due to a barrier. Surfers must park on the roadside and walk approximately five minutes down the lane to reach the beach break. It is essential to respect the local environment; although Silverstrand is considered one of the most naturally beautiful beaches in the country, it can sometimes be marred by litter from beach parties. Surfers are encouraged to bring their rubbish home to help maintain the cleanliness of the area. When surfing at Silverstrand, it is important to check surf etiquette, especially during busy times, to ensure a safe and respectful experience for everyone in the water. Additionally, assess your skill level against the difficulty of the waves before entering the water to ensure you are prepared for the conditions. Nearby surf spots include Killiney Bay, Donabate Beach, Ladies Beach, Tower Bay, and Aberdaron, providing a variety of options for surfers looking to explore the region. For accurate surf forecasts, reports, maps, and webcams, it is advisable to check local resources. Respect the locals.
