Overview
About this Spot
Paraiso is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, near Huacho at kilometer 135 of the Panamericana Norte. To reach the spot, take the turnoff to Playa Paraiso and follow an old asphalt road with many potholes for about 9 kilometers. After 3 kilometers, look for a right turn marked by a small tower of rocks, which leads to the side of Laguna El Paraiso. This road is now in better condition than the main asphalt road. Paraiso features a sand and rock bottom and is considered a regional classic surf spot. The surf spot provides left waves. The wave length is usually less than 50 meters, and the spot is known for its strong, sometimes tubular waves, especially during high tide with southeast winds. Swells from the northwest work best, but the spot can also handle west and north swells, with wave heights reaching up to 5 feet (1.5 meters). The surf here is not very consistent, so always check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The area is remote, and a 4×4 vehicle is recommended for easier access. There are sea urchins in the water, so be careful when entering and exiting. The spot is best for intermediate surfers due to the challenging conditions. Always check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and follow the surf etiquette. The crowd is usually light, but it is important to be aware of others in the water. Nearby surf spots include Centinela, Pasamayo, Playa Tomaycalla, Conchitas, Bermejo, El Rebote, La Antena, and Punta Salinas. For more details, use a surf map or webcam to check current conditions. There are no alternative names or main peaks listed for this spot.
