Overview
About this Spot
Playa El Silencio is a surf spot located in Lima, Peru, in the district of Punta Hermosa about 43 kilometers south of Lima. The spot sits in a bay with rocky cliffs and golden sand, and is known for its quick, hollow right wave that breaks close to the beach. The surf spot provides right waves. The bottom is made up of boulders, and at low tide, the area can be shallow with urchin-covered rocks, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. The wave is short, usually less than 50 meters, and is more suited for bodyboarding due to its shape and speed. Playa El Silencio is a fickle spot that only works with the right swell, making it less consistent than other nearby surf spots like Caballeros, Playa Los Pulpos, Señoritas, Pico Alto, and Playa Norte. The best conditions are usually found at medium tide. The spot is mostly empty, especially in winter, but during summer the beach gets crowded with people, seafood restaurants, and a disco near the point. If the wave is not working, there are other surf spots in the area to check out. Access is easy via the Pan-American Highway South from Lima, and you can get there by car, taxi, or bus. Always check the surf forecast, report, map, and webcam before heading out to see if the spot is working. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always follow surf etiquette. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. Playa El Silencio is a maybe spot, often overlooked because of its inconsistency, but it can offer a good session when the conditions line up.
