About this Spot

Chigga’s is a surf spot located in Northwest, Nicaragua. The spot is found north of Playa San Diego and is close to a golf course and a rivermouth. The bottom is made up of coral reef and rocks, so be careful when entering and exiting the water. Access to Chigga’s is possible by parking in San Diego or Gran Pacifica, and a 4×4 vehicle is recommended for the drive. After parking, there is a short walk to the beach. The beach here has black sand and is exposed to the open ocean. Chigga’s works best at high tide, and the best surf conditions are usually with a south swell and east winds. The wave at Chigga’s is a right reef break, with a deep-water takeoff that leads into a tube section and then a rippable wall. The spot is known to break only sometimes, so it is important to check the surf forecast and report before heading out. The crowd is usually light, but it can get busier on weekends. When the spot is crowded, respect the locals and always follow surf etiquette. The spot is recommended for intermediate surfers due to the reef and the nature of the wave. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. Nearby surf spots include Cherrio’s, Hemorrhoids, Asunchillo, Quizala, and Pochomil Beach Break. There are no webcams directly at Chigga’s, so checking the surf map and forecast is important for planning your session. Always be aware of the rocky and coral bottom, and take care when surfing here.
