Overview
About this Spot
Hemorrhoids is a surf spot located in Northwest, Nicaragua, near the Gran Pacifica Resort and about an hour’s drive from Managua. The spot features a hollow, fast left wave that breaks over a sedimentary rock reef, with the reef becoming exposed at low tide. The best surf conditions are usually found during high tide, and the wave length ranges from 50 to 150 meters. The bottom is made up of coral reef and rocks, so caution is needed when entering and exiting the water. The water temperature is typically around 29°C, so a thin wetsuit or rash guard is recommended for sun protection. Access to the beach may require a fee, and there are reports of different prices at the Gran Pacifica gate. You can also reach the spot by turning left before the river near the Gran Pacifica gate, heading to the village of San Diego, and parking near the rocks before walking to the break. The spot is in front of the 5-star Hotel Gran Pacifica and close to the restaurant. Hemorrhoids can start to feel crowded with more than half a dozen surfers, but it is common to find more people in the lineup, especially during peak times. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and always check the surf etiquette. The spot is considered a regional classic and is best suited for intermediate surfers. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. The surf spot provides left waves. For those looking for less crowded conditions, there are other high tide reefs south towards San Diego. Nearby surf spots include Asunchillo, Cherrio’s, Chigga’s, Quizala, and Pochomil Beach Break.
