Laverinto is a surf spot located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, also known as El Laberinto. The spot sits between Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point, and is only accessible by boat. If you are staying in the Tamarindo area, you need to drive about 1 hour to Playa del Coco and then take a boat for around 45 minutes. The journey usually starts early in the morning to catch the best surf conditions. The bottom at Laverinto is a mix of coral reef, sharp rocks, and sand, so be careful when paddling out and coming back in. The surf spot provides right waves. The best time to surf here is during the wet season from November to April, with July also offering good conditions. The ideal forecast for Laverinto is a southwest swell with offshore winds from the north-northeast. The waves are powerful and hollow, and the length of ride is usually less than 50 meters. The spot is mostly empty, even on good days, but always respect the locals and check the surf etiquette, especially if the spot gets crowded. The water temperature is warm, around 30°C, so you won’t need a wetsuit. Laverinto is considered a regional classic and is best suited for experienced surfers due to the strong waves, rocks, and the presence of sharks in the area.
