About this Spot

The spot sits near the base of the mountain called Chapman’s Peak, between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, with the Atlantic Ocean right below the steep cliffs. The wave length is less than 50 meters, and the spot is usually empty, but if you see a crowd, respect the locals and always check the surf etiquette. The surf spot provides left waves. The best tide for surfing here is high tide. The spot is considered a regional classic but is only suitable for experienced surfers and pros due to strong rips, undertow, rocks, and the presence of sharks. The wave is powerful and can be dangerous, so check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. The spot is not often surfed, and some local surfers claim to have ridden it, but it is rare to see anyone out. When a huge swell hits, you can spot the wave from Chapman’s Peak Drive, a scenic road that runs along the mountain. Nearby surf spots include The Hoek, Hout Bay, Hout Bay Harbour Wall, Noordhoek Beach, and Dungeons.
