About this Spot

Chi Pa is a surf spot located in East Central Honshu, Japan. The spot is known for its sandy bottom and is suitable for all levels of surfers. Surfing here is possible mainly from July to October, as the waves are usually small or flat during other months. When a typhoon approaches, wave size can increase to overhead, but most of the time the waves tend to close out, though you can still find a shoulder to ride. The surf spot provides both left and right waves. There is a strong current near the river on the right side, so be cautious in that area. The best conditions are at low and medium tide, and the ride length is generally less than 50 meters. Chi Pa is not crowded, with only a few surfers in the water, partly because parking is limited to about 10 cars along the golf course. The closest train station is Tsujido, and using a bicycle is often the easiest way to get to the spot. Nearby surf spots include Kugenuma, Shonan, Shichirigahama, Inamuragasaki, and Sagami. Always check the surf forecast and report before heading out, and use a map or webcam if available to see current conditions. Respect the locals, especially when the spot is crowded, and make sure to follow surf etiquette at all times. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and conditions match your level. The area around Chi Pa is mostly quiet, and you will find fewer people compared to other surf spots. Remember to plan your visit during the summer months for the best chance of catching waves.
