About this Spot

Inamuragasaki is a surf spot located in East Central Honshu, Japan, in the Kamakura area of Kanagawa Prefecture. The spot is known for its left-hand reef break over a bottom of coral and sand, and it works best during typhoon swells. The beach has black sand, rich in iron, and the water temperature is around 15.5°C in March, so a spring wetsuit is usually needed. The surf spot is close to Tokyo, making it one of the most famous and crowded surf spots in Japan, especially when the forecast shows mid-size swells. On days with bigger swells, the crowd can thin out a bit. The lineup is often dominated by local surfers and paddleboarders, so it’s important to respect the locals and check the surf etiquette, especially when the spot is crowded. Professional surfers sometimes visit, and the spot hosts the Inamura Surfing Classic Invitational when conditions allow. The wave length is less than 50 meters and is best suited for intermediate surfers. Check your skills before paddling out, be sure that the spot and the conditions match your level. The spot works at all tides. Inamuragasaki is easy to reach via Route 134, with a short walk from the parking area to the break. The area is a small surf town with about 3,400 residents, a few restaurants, and grocery shops. Nearby surf spots include Shichirigahama, Shonan, Osaki, Kugenuma, and Chi Pa. For the latest surf report, forecast, map, and webcam, check local resources before heading out. The spot has a history dating back to 1333, with a monument commemorating a famous event from the Battle of Kamakura. Always check the difficulty of the spot and respect the local rules to have a safe surf session.
